No Views, No Job Offers, No Money? I Know What You Problem With LinkedIn Is

It's not LinkedIn. It's you. Identify your LinkedIn problem:

No Views, No Job Offers, No Money? I Know What You Problem With LinkedIn Is

I HAVE A GREAT PROFILE, BUT NO ONE IS OFFERING ME A JOB

I guess your specific expertise isn’t the most scarce one on the job market for now. Well, all you need to do is put in some extra effort:

  • Ask the people you want to work for - your future bosses, the HR folks - to connect.

  • Publish a thing or two about your views on the industry.

  • Send them a private message: “Hello George, I would love to work for a company like yours in the future. May I ask you for a recommendation on how to get an interview?”

Oh, I see, that would hurt your ego. I feel for you, I really do. Ultimately, it’s either your ego or a quick and efficient result.

PEOPLE DON’T LIKE ME, AND THE ALGORITHM DOESN’T LIKE ME

No, they don’t. Why would they?

  • Is your story beneficial to them? Is it a story at all?

  • Is your post fun? I mean, can they relax for a second and enjoy reading it?

  • Are you present there at all? I mean, can they see the real you in a picture or something?

=> WE DON’T OWE YOU OUR ATTENTION. GRAB IT ANYWAY: PUT A HUGE REASON WHY I SHOULD READ IT AT THE BEGINNING, AND BE SURE TO ENTERTAIN ME WITH A TRUE STORY WHILE DELIVERING YOUR PUNCHLINE AT THE END.

I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY LINKEDIN SO HARD AND I’M GETTING NOTHING FROM IT

Congratulations, now people like you and you are making Bill Gates very happy by creating great content for his network for free. No, you can’t invoice him for having tons of likes and impressions. But yes, now is the time to make it pay off:

  • Do you work in corporate? Great, your sales team is most likely already capitalizing on your increased reputation without you even knowing it. Be sure to tell your recruiters to directly message your relevant fans about current job openings, though; that’s an important final touch that makes the offer urgent by making it personal.

  • Are you a small entrepreneur? I feel with you, I'm too. Most of us have to take one extra step: investigate who viewed your profile, followed you, subscribed to your newsletter, and so on. Ask them for a meeting. In a nice, non-pushy, non-salesy, non-creepy way. Here we go again, it’s about your ego.

I hate to say this, but most of our LinkedIn shortcomings, including mine, come down to these three things:

WE ARE NOT HUMBLE ENOUGH

WE ARE NOT EMPATHETIC ENOUGH

WE ARE NOT CONSISTENT ENOUGH

Solve these, and you will become a much better person. Not only on LinkedIn.
