Why is LinkedIn Livestream Great?

LinkedIn Live allows eligible members and Pages to broadcast live video content to a LinkedIn profile, Page, or Event. Previously, almost no one had access to this feature. Now, this option is open to almost anyone, yet very few people actually stream.

What makes live streaming so great?

  • Most of your followers receive a notification when you go live. These notifications are enabled by default, and users would have to deliberately search for a way to disable them.

  • Even after the stream ends, this notification remains. According to our data sample, this is one of the key reasons why 19 out of 20 views occur after you finish broadcasting.

  • Not only is your stream visible in the feed, but it is also quite often prioritized to appear among the top posts while you are broadcasting.

  • If you use an Event to schedule a live stream, it can be discovered by users who already watch similar content. Furthermore, you gain access to the list of attendees who have signed up, allowing you to proactively invite your connections to join - even several days before the event takes place.

  • If you are trying to establish your brand, this is the most authentic way to do so. Your audience sees a real person on the other side of the camera, which builds trust in the authenticity of the content they are consuming.

  • Furthermore, if they tune in live, they can interact with you directly via the comments. Ultimately, hosting live streams - even if you do them alone - will generate well-above-average video watch times.

  • If you do livestreams with others that have a good LinkedIn profile, you loose some watch time because your followers mostly don't care about your guest as much as they care about you.

  • But you get lots of profile views and follows from people that following that guest of your.

So, if LinkedIn Live is so beneficial, why isn’t everyone already streaming?

The main reason is that you have to use an external tool to broadcast. The best choice I know of is StreamYard, which offers both free and paid plans.

This flow is much more natural for an article, script, or social media post. It connects the fragments into complete, punchy thoughts.

“The main reason people avoid streaming is that it’s uncomfortable to be in the spotlight.

There is zero chance to correct your spontaneous mistakes, and it can be discouraging to see only a few live viewers. Even though you know most of the audience will watch the recording later.”
